Paper Mill Rolls

paper Mill rolls are the largest rubber covered rolls . There are few paper machines which require rolls under 12 feet in length. Loads which paper machine rolls are subjected to can run as high as 1,000 pounds per lineal inch.

Paper machines at the present writing operate at speeds uo to 400 feet per minute. These speeds are constantly increasing. While there are about 40 durometer , paper mill rolls in general are 80 durameter or harder. there are a variety of chemicals to which paper mill rolls must be resistant. These include additives to the raw paper stock and cleaning agents which are used on the paper machine.

Textile Rolls

Textile rolls are the largest single classification of industrial trolls and are smaller than paper mill rolls, usually running from 60 to 80 inches in length. they operate are somewhat slower speeds, although today these speeds are increasing to the point where a fast textile range will be running at speeds comprable to a slow paper machine: namely at 800 to 1,00 feet per minute.

Textile rolls must be made white in color so that they will not contaminate the goods . The variety of chemicals to which a textile roll must be resistant is endless and constantly changing as the technology to textile finishing charges.

Textile rolls, for the most part, are supplied in hardness ranges of 85 durometer and up.

Steel Industrial Rolls

The steel industry is a tremendous user of rubber covered rolls. All the pickling plating and steel finicing lines contain rubber covered rolls which are used for pulling as hold down rolls as wiping rolls, and as brakes. Again we have a wide variety of chemical conditions to be met coupled with extremely high speeds ,since it is not uncommon for plating and picking linings today to operate between 2500 and 300 feet per minute. Most of the steel mill rolls are in a hardness region more familiar chemists ranging between 50 and 80 durometer.
